Für die sechste Ausgabe von THE DORF THE MAG fragten wir fünf Düsseldorfer Florist*innen, wie für sie ein Blumenstrauß aussähe, der Düsseldorf charakterisiert. Das Ergebnis: Fünf wundervolle, liebevoll arrangierte Kreationen, die spielerisch zeigen, dass die Stadt nicht nur vielfältig und bunt, sondern vor allem eins ist: Kontrastreich. Flowers show affection. They are a comfort when you are down and they make you smile. Often it is only a single blossom that manages to make you happy. For the 6th issue of our THE DORF THE MAG we asked five Düsseldorf florists what kind of bouquet they would create to represent Düsseldorf. The result: five beautiful, lovingly arranged creations that playfully show that the city is not only diverse and colourful, but above all one thing: rich in contrast. Let the flowers speak!

For me, Düsseldorf combines a lot in a wonderfully compact way: Rhine romanticism and big city life. Rural idyll and hipster neighbourhood. Historical and trendsetting. Above all, this city is one thing: One big showcase!

Düsseldorf vereint die Leichtigkeit und Gemütlichkeit einer Kleinstadt – viel Grün, der Rhein, viele kleine Stadtviertel – mit allen Möglichkeiten einer Metropole (Messe, Flughafen, Stadion etc.). Eine Stadt zum Wohlfühlen und für uns die lebenswerteste.
Describe briefly what you associate with Düsseldorf and how your creation symbolises Düsseldorf or what it stands for. Düsseldorf combines the ease and cosiness of a small town – lots of greenery, the Rhine, many small districts – with all the possibilities of a metropolis (trade fair, airport, stadium, etc.). A city to feel good in and for us the most liveable.
Eure persönliche Lieblingsblume oder Pflanze und warum? Französische Tulpen, die wachsen von alleine so, wie es kein Florist der Welt arrangieren könnte. Außerdem gibt es diese nur saisonal – also nur kurze Zeit im Jahr.
Your personal favourite flower or plant and why? French tulips, they grow by themselves in a way that no florist in the world could arrange. Besides, they are only available seasonally – that is, only for a short time of the year.

Beschreibe kurz, was Du mit Düsseldorf verbindest und inwiefern Deine Kreation Düsseldorf symbolisiert bzw. wofür sie steht. Fast ein Jahrzehnt lebe ich mittlerweile in Düsseldorf. Die Stadt hat für mich eine beruhigende Kompaktheit – nicht zu groß und nicht zu klein. Sie ist Kö-Schick und Champagner, aber auch Altbier und Trödel. Oder um es mit den Worten von „Freundeskreis“ zu sagen: „Ich mag deinen Anblick und dass du viele Sprachen sprichst. Lieb, dass du sowohl High Class als auch Straße bist“. Der Strauß soll genau das rüberbringen. Er trägt die Farben der Stadt, „Rot und Weiß“, das Blau des Rheins und ist mit seinen anderen Farben akzentreich und frei, eher wilder gebunden. Die Vase ist aus Japan und unterstreicht den japanischen Einfluss in Düsseldorf und damit die verschiedenen Kulturen der Stadt.
Describe briefly what you associate with Düsseldorf and how your creation symbolises Düsseldorf or what it stands for. I have been living in Düsseldorf for almost a decade now. For me, the city has a reassuring compactness – not too big and not too small. It is Kö- Schick and champagne, but also Altbier and Trödel. Or to put it in the words of German hip hop band “Freundeskreis”: “I like the way you look and that you speak many languages. I love that you are both high class and street”. (original lyrics: “Ich mag deinen Anblick und dass du viele Sprachen sprichst. Lieb, dass du sowohl High Class als auch Straße bist”.) The bouquet is meant to convey just that. It bears the colours of the city, “red and white”, the blue of the Rhine, and its other colours are accentuated and free, rather wildly bound. The vase is from Japan and underlines the Japanese influence in Düsseldorf and thus the different cultures of the city.
Deine persönliche Lieblingsblume oder Pflanze und warum? Rittersporn (Delphinium), wegen ihrer vielfältigen Blautöne, die in der Floristik nicht häufig vorkommen. Sie ist aufgrund ihrer Wuchsform von allen Seiten wunderschön und somit ein Highlight in jedem Blumenstrauß. Sie ist zart und stark zugleich und hat mit ihrer Bedeutung sogar Tiefgang: „Wahrhaftigkeit“.
Your personal favourite flower or plant and why? Delphinium, because of its varied shades of blue, which are not common in floristry. It is beautiful from all sides because of its growth habit, making it a highlight in any bouquet. It is delicate and strong at the same time and even has depth with its meaning: “truthfulness”.

Beschreibe kurz, was Du mit Düsseldorf verbindest und inwiefern Deine Kreation Düsseldorf symbolisiert bzw. wofür sie steht. Ich liebe Düsseldorf. Ich bin ein Junge aus dem Ruhrpott und wir sind mit meiner Familie jede Woche nach Düsseldorf gefahren, um das Leben hier zu genießen. Die Stadt war immer schon magisch für mich. Ich liebe Mode, gutes Essen und diesen gewissen wilden Luxus, den die Stadt versprüht. Der Blumenstrauß ist eine wilde Kombination aus allen möglichen Blüten, von sehr wilden krautigen Blumen bis hin zur luxuriösen Orchidee in dunklem Violett. Ich liebe außergewöhnlich Kombinationen und Sachen, die auf den ersten Blick nicht sofort zusammenpassen. Das Ganze verbindet sich über diese teilweise sehr, sehr müde Farbauswahl und ein paar Akzente in Violett, Pink und dunklem Rot. Ich glaube, dass der Strauß mehr ein Gefühl ausdrückt – so fühlt sich Düsseldorf für mich an, manchmal etwas müde, teilweise sehr posh und luxuriös, etwas schrill an manchen Stellen und insgesamt liegt eine Art Filter über dem Ganzen, was es wieder verbindet. Hier ist der Filter diese müde Farbwahl.
Describe briefly what you associate with Düsseldorf and how your creation symbolises Düsseldorf or what it stands for. I love Düsseldorf. I’m a boy from the “Ruhrpott” (Ruhr area) and we used to go to Düsseldorf every week with my family to enjoy life here. The city has always been magical for me. I love fashion, good food and that certain wild luxury that the city exudes. The bouquet is a wild combination of all kinds of flowers, from very wild herbaceous flowers to a luxurious orchid in dark purple. I love unusual combinations and things that don’t immediately go together at first glance. The whole thing comes together via this partly very, very tired colour selection and a few accents in violet, pink and dark red. I think the bouquet expresses more of a feeling – that’s how Düsseldorf feels to me, sometimes a bit tired, sometimes very posh and luxurious, a bit garish in places and there’s a kind of filter over the whole thing, which ties it together again.
Deine persönliche Lieblingsblume oder Pflanze und warum? Ich habe keine feste Lieblingsblume, das hängt von der Saison ab. Jede Saison hat wunderschöne Blüten, die mich alle irgendwie anders begeistern.
Your personal favourite flower or plant and why? I don’t have a particular favourite, it depends on the season. Every season has beautiful blooms that all inspire me in a different way somehow.

Beschreibe kurz, was Du mit Düsseldorf verbindest und inwiefern Deine Kreation Düsseldorf symbolisiert bzw. wofür sie steht. Für mich ist Düsseldorf eine multikulturelle, familienfreundliche, zeitgeistige, saubere, Dorf-im-Dorf-Mini-Metropole, in der man schnell im Grünen ist. Düsseldorf steht für mich für die Verbindung verschiedenster Kulturen und vor allem zu den asiatischen Nationen. Ich habe in meiner Kreation heimische, langlebige getrocknete Gräser mit spielerisch wirkenden Nerinnen und asiatisch tänzernden Gloriosen zu einem harmonischen Ganzen kombiniert. Ich möchte damit ausdrücken, dass man in einer wilden, trubeligen City in einer sehr schnelllebigen Zeit mit vielen verschiedenen Einflüssen schnell im „Grünen“ vor den Toren der Stadt sein kann, um sich zu erden und die Natur zu fühlen.
Describe briefly what you associate with Düsseldorf and how your creation symbolises Düsseldorf or what it stands for. For me, Düsseldorf is a multicultural, family-friendly, contemporary, clean, village-within- a-village mini-metropolis where you can quickly get to the countryside. For me, Düsseldorf stands for the connection of diverse cultures and especially to Asian nations. In my creation, I have combined native, long-lasting dried grasses with playful-looking nerfs and Asian dancing glorioses to create a harmonious whole. I want to express that in a wild, bustling city in a very fast-moving time with many different influences, one can quickly be in the “green” at the gates of the city to ground oneself and feel nature.
Deine persönliche Lieblingsblume oder Pflanze und warum? Es gibt so viele verschiedene Schönheiten, dass ich mich gar nicht auf eine beschränken kann. Verschiedenste Kombinationen und immer wieder neue Farbspiele faszinieren mich Tag für Tag.
Your personal favourite flower or plant and why? There are so many different beauties that I can’t limit myself to just one. Different combinations and always new plays of colour fascinate me day after day.
