Mode kaufen und damit etwas Gutes tun: Die Kleidungsstücke von Loved Before sind nicht nur nachhaltige Schätzchen aus zweiter Hand, der Großteil ihres Erlöses unterstützt Organisationen, die sich dem Schutz von Frauen widmen. Hinter dem tollen Charity-Konzept steckt die Düsseldorferin Olivia Acar. Ihren stilvollen Fundus verkauft sie im Netz und temporär in ausgewählten Galerien und Cafés der Stadt. Gemanagt und verschickt wird alles in ihrer charmanten Wohnung in Friedrichstadt und sie wuppt das Ganze als One-Woman-Show mal eben neben einem Psychologiestudium. R-e-s-p-e-k-t!

Welche Idee steckt hinter Loved Before? Ich verkaufe ausgewählte Vintage-Teile, die meist von ihren Vorbesitzern gespendet wurden, für einen guten Zweck. Online und offline. Neben der Loved Before Website und Insta verkaufe ich immer wieder über Pop-ups in Cafés und Galerien wie zum Beispiel im Weird Space oder dem White Room in Flingern. Mit 75% der Einnahmen unterstütze ich gemeinnützige Organisationen, 25% reinvestiere ich den Shop. Die Idee zu Loved Before entstand aus einem privaten Flohmarkt, den ich letztes Jahr organisiert habe. Da kamen plötzlich 2.000 Euro zusammen, die ich anschließend an die Seenotrettung SOS Mediterranee gespendet habe.

Welche Organisationen unterstützt Du? Mein Herzensthema ist der Schutz von Frauen und ihrer Rechte. Aktuell spende ich die Erlöse an Women in Exile, einen Verein, der sich für geflüchtete Frauen in Deutschland einsetzt. Zudem unterstütze ich den Frauenrechtsverein Femnet e.V., der sich gegen Ausbeutung von Frauen in der Bekleidungsindustrie in den überwiegend armen Produktionsländern einsetzt. Die Erlöse von Loved Before kommen also denjenigen zu Gute, die unsere Kleidung zu Hungerlöhnen fertigen müssen. So schließt sich der Kreis.

Wonach wählst du die Kleidungsstücke aus? Es muss ein besonderes Teil sein. Mit einem schönen Detail oder einem coolen Print. Es muss mir gefallen. Das Brand spielt kein Rolle. Hin und wieder suche ich Teile raus und kaufe sie mir quasi selber ab, indem ich Geld in den Pott werfe. Im Gegensatz zu vielen Vintage-Stores kuratiere ich die Kleidung sehr genau, damit mein Angebot besonders attraktiv und zeitgemäß ist. Der Aufbau meines Web-Shops ist sehr klar, übersichtlich und clean und Kleidung für Männer und Frauen ist gemischt. Ich finde es unnötig, zwischen den Geschlechtern zu unterscheiden.

Was wünschst du dir für die Zukunft? Dass Loved Before wächst. Dass sich unser Team noch weiter vergrößert und wir an Reichweite gewinnen. Insgeheim träume ich von einer App, mit der jede*r ganz schnell und unkompliziert Kleidungsstücke hochladen und spenden kann und so noch so viel mehr Geld für gemeinnützige Organisationen zusammenkommt.

Wie haben die Düsseldorfer dein Projekt angenommen? Sehr offen und kooperativ. Befreundete Galeristen und Inhaber bieten mir Flächen an, in denen ich kostenlos meine Ware präsentieren und verkaufen kann. Aber auch Sachspenden bekomme ich nicht nur von Privatpersonen, sondern auch von Händlern. Afew hat mir beispielsweise Schuhe zur Verfügung gestellt, die sie nicht mehr verkaufen konnten. Das war wahnsinnig toll.

Wie beschreibst du deinen persönlichen Stil? Ich habe immer schon gerne Second Hand gekauft, aber mittlerweile auch immer mehr aus dem nachhaltigen Aspekt heraus. Durch meinen Nebenjob als Verkäuferin im Einzelhandel kenne ich das Problem der Fashion-Branche aus erster Hand: Überproduktion. Wir besitzen alle viel zu viel Kleidung und gleichzeitig ist viel zu viel neue Ware im Umlauf. Ich persönlich mische gerne. Etwa Oxfam mit einem hochwertigen Teil. Bei Beyond zum Beispiel finde ich ausgewählte Teile die etwas teurer sind, aber sehr besonders, fein verarbeitet und vor allem zeitlos.

Wo trifft man dich in Düsseldorf? Auf jedem Fall auf dem Flohmarkt. Ich liebe den Radschlägermarkt mit seinem tollen Flair. Dort werde ich eigentlich immer fündig. Was ich an der Stadt liebe ist ihre Überschaubarkeit. Man kennt sich und ist einfach eine große Gemeinschaft. Drinks nehme ich gerne im Velvet und meinen Kaffee trinke ich jeden Morgen bei Luise und Nataly vom Manko Café.

Buying fashion for a good cause: the clothes available at Loved Before are not only second-hand and thus sustainable treasures, but a large part of the profit supports organisations, that are dedicated to protecting women.  Olivia Acar from Düsseldorf is the person behind this charitable concept.  Her stylish collections are being sold online and, occasionally, in some of the city’s carefully selected galleries and coffee shops. Everything is managed and despatched from her charming flat in Friedrichstadt and this one-woman-show runs at same time as her studies for a degree in psychology. R-e-s-p-e-c-t!

Where did the idea for Loved Before come from? I sell selected vintage clothes that have usually been donated for good causes by their previous owners, online and offline. Apart from the Loved Before online shop and Instagram I sometimes sell in pop-up coffee shops and galleries, for example at Weird Space or the White Room in Flingern. 75% of the profits are going to charitable organisations, 25% are being reinvested into the shop. The idea for Loved Before came from a private second-hand sale that I organised last year. Suddenly 2,000 Euros came together, which I subsequently donated to Seenotrettung SOS Mediterranee.

Which organisations do you support? Closest to my heart is the protection of women and women’s rights. Presently I donate the proceeds to Women in Exile, an organisation that advocates for female refugees in Germany. Moreover I support the association for women’s rights, Femnet e.V., which fights against the exploitation of women in predominantly poor countries who work in the textile industry. The proceeds from Loved Before thus benefit those people that had to produce our clothes for a pittance in the first place. This is how the circle is closed.

What are the criteria you apply when choosing items of clothing? The piece has to have something special – a beautiful detail or a cool print. I have to like it – the brand is of no importance. Occasionally I choose items and basically buy them from myself by putting money into the till. Unlike many other vintages stores I curate the clothes very carefully, so that what’s on offer is particularly attractive and current. The structure of the online shop is uncluttered, clearly laid out and clothes for both men and women are on show. I find it unnecessary to distinguish between the genders.

What would you wish for the future? I would like for Loved Before to grow, that our team continues to expand and we increase our scope. Secretly I am dreaming of an app which would enable anyone to upload pictures of simple items of clothing and donate, so that even more money can be raised for charitable organisations.

How did the people of Düsseldorf take to your project? They have been very open-minded and helpful. Friends who run galleries and store owners offer spaces in which I can display and sell my merchandise without incurring costs. And it is not only private people but also traders who donate items. Afew for example has provided shoes that they were not able to sell. That was amazing!

How would you describe your personal style? I have always enjoyed buying vintage, but nowadays increasingly due to the aspect of sustainability. Through my part-time job as a sales assistant in retail I am familiar with the problems within the fashion industry at first hand: overproduction. We own too much clothing and at the same time a lot of new merchandise is in circulation. I personally like to mix and match, for example something from Oxfam in combination with a premium item. At Beyond, for example, I can find selected pieces that may be a bit more expensive, but have been expertly made and are most importantly timeless.

Where do you like to hang out in Düsseldorf? Definitely at flea markets! I love the market at the Radschläger with its amazing atmosphere. I always find something to buy there. I really love the way Düsseldorf is so easy to grasp. People know each other and it is simply a great community. I like to go for a drink at Velvet and my daily morning coffee I get from Luise and Nataly at Manko-Café.
