Flockey Ocscor

Kreativer Ausdruck ist das Lebenselixier von Flockey Ocscor. Der in Friedrichshafen geborene Künstler kongolesischer Abstammung ist ein international gefragter Hip-Hop Tänzer sowie Musiker, Choreograph, Videograph und Spoken Word Performer. Anfang 2020 ist sein erstes eigenes Musikvideo zu „Something In You“ erschienen. Wir trafen Flockey für THE DORF THE MAG zum Interview.

Flockey ist eine wahre Locking-Legende, zweifacher Vizemeister bei den prestigeträchtigen ‚Just Debout World Finals‘ in Paris und hat zahlreiche Wettbewerbe gewonnen, darunter die ‚UK B-Boy Championships‘ in London. Gemeinsam mit seiner Tanzcrew ‚Bad Newz MP‘ prägt er das Bild des Tanzhauses NRW, begeistert jung und alt durch verschiedene Stile des urbanen Tanzes.

Neben seinem einzigartigen Rhythmusgefühl zeichnet ihn auch sein poetischer Ansatz aus: Durch die Verwendung von Spoken Word in seinen Performances schafft er neue künstlerische Standards, bei denen es nicht nur um stilistische Regeln, sondern vielmehr um Möglichkeiten und Absichten geht. Tanz, Poesie und sozialer Kommentar in einem. Das Ergebnis ist fantastisch.

Gab es einen bestimmten Moment in Deinem Leben, der Deine Leidenschaft für den Tanz geweckt hat? Auf jeden Fall! Schon als Kind habe ich es geliebt, dabei zuzuschauen, wie mein großer Bruder tanzt. Meine größte Inspirationsquelle war definitiv die Kultur meines Heimatlandes, dem Kongo. Innerhalb der Gemeinde war ich immer fasziniert davon, zu beobachten wie meine Familie und Freunde sich zu Musik bewegen. Hier in Deutschland versuche ich tänzerisch zu zeigen, wo meine Wurzeln liegen. Mir ist es wichtig, mit Tanzen meine eigene Geschichte zu erzählen.

Was bedeutet Locking für Dich und wie hat sich Dein Tanzstil entwickelt? Für mich ist Locking ‚Happiness‘. Ein Gefühl, welches man schwer in Worte fassen kann. Eigentlich kann man alles durch Locking ausdrücken, es steckt viel Aufrichtigkeit und Echtheit dahinter. Für die Entwicklung meines Stils hat meine Tanzcrew ‚Bad Newz MP‘ eine wichtige Rolle gespielt. Wir tanzen alle sehr verschieden: Hip-hop, House, Popping, Crumping – das alles hat mich inspiriert.

Gibt es Höhepunkte in Deiner bisherigen Karriere?  Ein doppeltes Highlight war es, mit meinem Partner Sugar Rae zweifacher Vizeweltmeister der ‚Just Debout‘ zu werden. Davon abgesehen begeistert es mich immer wieder aufs Neue, wenn Kinder und Teenager zu mir sagen, ich hätte sie inspiriert. In solchen Augenblicken wird mir klar, dass ich auf dem richtigen Weg bin.

Wenn Du aufstrebenden, jungen Tänzern einen Rat geben könntest, welcher wäre das? Am Wichtigsten ist, sich selbst treu zu bleiben. Das ist zwar einfacher gesagt als getan, allerdings sollte man in Momenten des Selbstzweifels versuchen an sich zu glauben – es zahlt sich aus! Ein weiterer wichtiger Tipp ist folgender: Hör nie auf zu lernen.

Mit welchem Künstler, tot oder lebendig, würdest Du am liebsten auf der Bühne stehen?  An erster Stelle steht definitiv James Brown. Dann kommen der Locking-Erfinder Don Campbellock und Ronaldinho, denn vor dem Tanz war Fußball meine große Leidenschaft. Es wäre auch genial, meine geschiedenen Eltern auf der Bühne nochmal zu vereinen. Meine Mutter und ich haben erst letzte Woche auf der Hochzeit meiner Cousine zusammen getanzt – das war purer Spaß!

Was hat Dich nach Düsseldorf gebracht? Meine Arbeit am tanzhaus nrw und die Tatsache, dass viele meiner Freunde hier leben. Früher bin ich von Wuppertal nach Düsseldorf gependelt, aber umzuziehen war die richtige Entscheidung. Hier kann ich Sachen auf meine Art und Weise machen, neue Dinge kreieren.

Was zeichnet Deiner Meinung nach das tanzhaus nrw aus? Die Vielfalt. Ohne jetzt Werbung machen zu wollen, kann ich ehrlich sagen: Deutschlandweit gibt es keine andere Tanzschule, die so viele Kurse anbietet, vor allem nicht im Urban Style. Hip-Hop, Locking, Popping, Waacking, Voguing und vieles, vieles mehr. Außerdem finden hier viele große und spannende Events statt. Die große Palette an Aktivitäten zeichnet das tanzhaus nrw aus.

Gibt es Orte in Düsseldorf, die Deine Arbeit inspirieren?  Vielleicht gibt es manche Orte, wie den Volksgarten in Bilk, aber eigentlich ganz allgemein Straßenszenen. Wie bewegen sich Menschen, was haben sie an – solche Sachen eben.

Deine drei Begriffe, um Düsseldorf zu beschreiben, sind: Schön, aktiv und innig.

Düsseldorf vertanzt: Wie würde das aussehen? Ein Mix aus House und Elektro Musik. Ganz lässig am Tanzen, total gechillt.

Creative expression is the lifeblood of Christian “Flockey” Ocscor. The Friedrichshafen-born artist of Congolese descent is an internationally sought-after hip hop dancer, as well as a musician, choreographer, videographer and spoken word performer. A true Locking legend, he is a two-time runner-up in Paris’s prestigious ‚Just Debout World Finals‘ and has won numerous competitions such as the ‚UK B-Boy Championships‘ in London. Together with his dance crew ‚Bad Newz MP‘, he helps shape the image of the Tanzhaus NRW by getting young and old enthusiastic about different styles of urban dance. Besides his inherent sense of rhythm, what also makes Flockey unique is his poetic approach: By using spoken word in his performances, he establishes new artistic standards that don’t just concern stylistic rules, but rather possibilities and intentions. Dance, poetry and social commentary all wrapped up into one. The result is fantastic.

Was there a specific moment in your life that sparked your passion for dance? Absolutely! Already as a child, I loved to watch my big brother dance. My biggest source of inspiration was definitely the culture of my homeland, the Congo. Within the community, I was always fascinated by how my family and friends move to music. Here in Germany, I try to show my roots and tell my story through dance.

What does Locking mean to you and how has your dance style evolved? To me, Locking is ‚Happiness‘. A feeling that is difficult to put into words. With Locking, you can express virtually any emotion because there is a lot of authenticity and sincerity involved in it. My dance crew ‚Bad Newz MP‘ played a big role in the development of my style. We all dance very differently: Hip-Hop, House, Popping, Crumping – all of it inspired me.

Are there any highlights in your career so far? It was a double highlight to become a two-time vice world champion of ‚Juste Debout‘ together with my partner Sugar Rae. Apart from that, I still get excited when children and teenagers tell me that I am an inspiration for them. In moments like these, I realize that I’m on the right track.

If you could give aspiring young dancers a piece of advice, what would it be? It’s key to stay true to yourself. This might be easier said than done, but try to believe in yourself in moments of self-doubt – it pays off! Another important tip is this: Never stop learning.

Which artist, dead or alive, would you most like to be on stage with? Most of all, James Brown. Next would be the inventor of Locking Don Campbellock and Ronaldinho because football was my first big passion. It would also be awesome to reunite my divorced parents on stage. Last week, my mother and I danced together at my cousin’s wedding – that was a lot of fun!

What brought you to Düsseldorf? My work at tanzhaus nrw and the fact that many of my friends live here. I used to commute from Wuppertal to Düsseldorf, but moving was the right decision. Here, I can do things my way and create new stuff.

In your opinion, what makes the tanzhaus nrw so special? Diversity. Without trying to advertise, I can honestly say: There is no other dance school in Germany that offers so many classes, especially urban style. Besides, a lot of big and exciting events take place here. The wide range of activities is what characterizes the tanzhaus nrw.

Are there places in Düsseldorf that inspire you in your work? Maybe there are some places like the Volksgarten in Bilk but actually, it’s street life in general. How people move, what they wear – things like that.

Your three words to describe Düsseldorf are: Pleasant, active and intimate.

Düsseldorf as a dance: What would it look like? A mix of house and electro music. Casual dancing, totally chilled out.
