Miaki Komuro studied fashion design at home in Tokyo at the prestigious Bunka Fashion College. She has been living in Düsseldorf since 2014 and founded her fashion brand in 2016.

Suzusan
Suzusan is the name of the label of Hiroyuki Murase, called Hiro, who breathes new life into the Japanese craft of shibori. The company is based in a backyard studio in Flingern-Süd, opposite the Weltkunstzimmer, and sells its collection far beyond Düsseldorf. The fabric produced with this special technique has already been worn on Dior’s catwalk as well as byinternational stars like Natalie Portman. THE DORF visited him in his studio to find out more about his label, shibori and his future plans.

He runs ‘Selfmade Records’, the most successful German hip hop label of the last ten years where rappers like Genetikk, Casper or the 257ers are or were under contract. With his new label ‘Division’, he is responsible for RIN who represents a new generation of German hip hop artists. Kaspar van de Water
Kaspar van de Water is the brain behind Callshop Radio, a radio station, that is on air since April 2017. Together with Fernando Diaz, he founded the radio station following the example of independent online stations like NTS Radio and Red Light Radio from London and Amsterdam respectively.

A naked man hangs from the ceiling. His long-limbed, life-sized body is the rst thing coming into view, as the heavy studio door opens. The room with high ceilings and the cathedral-like windows is located in a former factory building of the “Duewag” on the edge of the Lierenfeld industrial estate. There is a strong smell of wood in the air. The male nude’s eyes are closed. He is slim, slender and made of limewood. This is the wood from which most of the sculptures of the Düsseldorfer artist Paloma Varga Weisz are made.

Kazunori Yoda
Ich gestehe, dass Kazunori Yoda gleich zu Beginn meine ganze Sympathie vereinnahmt, als er sagt, er gebe Düsseldorf gegenüber New York den Vorzug. Drei Jahre hat er in New York, genauer in Brooklyn, gelebt und als Hair Stylist gearbeitet. Geboren und aufgewachsen ist er in der japanischen Stadt Fukui, Verwaltungssitz der gleichnamigen Präfektur, einer Region, die bekannt ist für die Handwerkskunst von Keramiken und handgeschöpftem Papier. Vor sechs Jahren zog Kazunori nach Düsseldorf.
